Self Help You’ll Never Find In A Book

Posted on May 9, 2011 Written by Tonya

Two heads are better than one. – John Heywood

Every two weeks for several months now, I have been meeting with a small group of women that I have grown to respect, admire, come to rely on and find incredibly helpful in achieving my personal goals.

Ironically, we all have marketing backgrounds, but not one of us work a 40+ hour week desk job anymore. We are in various stages of career transition, trying to get our own businesses off the ground or are stay-at-home-moms (yours truly) with a hobby that has become a passion.

Our group is small and we may not have a catchy name, mascot or matching T-shirts…yet, but what we do have is invaluable.

We all possess obtainable entrepreneurial goals for ourselves and support one another by holding each other accountable for various action items that will help us reach these goals.

We encourage one another to keep our vision(s) in mind as we brainstorm, collaborate, share past experiences and current contacts.

It was through this group that I finally accepted that I am a writer and not just a “mommy blogger” and that I would like to find a freelance writing position.

Just three weeks ago, I started working with the owners of a local hair salon to help build their brand, Website and blog. This is the first of many clients, I hope!

Women rule and I am very thankful to be a part of this group.

Do you belong to a similar group or organization? If so, how has it helped you?

What a great idea! That group sounds like such an incredible resource on so many levels. Good for you for finding it and creating your piece of it. I would love to participate in such a group. I can imagine how beneficial it would be.

I used to have my group when I was working, but now that I'm home it's been harder to connect with other women since most of my friends still work. However, in the last few weeks I've been meeting with other new mothers. Our babies are around the same age (2 -6 months) so it's nice to discuss the whole new mom thing and just get out of the house!

    Congrats on your new endeavor!

That is so very awesome!! Congrats on the new gig….a first of many, I'm sure.

I have a group of women that I "meet" with. We live in different places, so we communicate online and once a month we have a conference call. It has been invaluable to be a part of the group. We focus on work issues and life issues and I have seriously never felt more supported.

How exciting for you! You are an excellent writer. Will we get to see the site/blog you have been working on for the hair salon?

I don't have a group like this, but I wish I did. It's amazing what women can do when we choose to support one another instead of being jealous or competitive! Congrats on your new adventure and on your amazing friends!

That is a perfect match for you, and you ARE a great writer. I have a group of women, PEO it is a nonprofit group and we are committed to women's education. The group meets 2x a month. I cannot always attend with schedule conflicts, but they are super supportive and always there when I need them.
Your blog is so well done. xoxo
