Calming The Mind

Posted on August 31, 2011 Written by Tonya

The lights have been dimmed and the curtains drawn.

There is pleasant flute music playing in the background and I smell lavender.

I’m trying to quiet my mind.

I feel the warmth of a heat lamp placed directly above my stomach as I lay flat on my back with a circular pillow supporting my knees.

The faint sound of bass rises from the fitness center downstairs and interrupts my thoughts, but only for a moment.

I am careful not to move.

I wish I were getting a massage, but the effects would not be as lasting, instead I have 14 tiny needles in my body; two in each ear, two in each leg, one in each foot, three in my stomach and one in my left wrist. I’m still uncertain of each of their functions, but I trust in the ancient, time-tested technique.

The needles don’t hurt at all, but I feel ridiculous. I will stay like this for 20 minutes.

This is my third treatment, all in an effort to increase blood flow to my uterus, flush out my system and reduce stress and anxiety.

I am optimistic.

Whew, I have a serious needle phobia, so I could never do acupuncture, but I have heard lots of success stories from other women! I hope it works!

Acupuncture is used for a lot of different ailments. And the needles are so tiny, you don’t feel them one bit. Honest.

I’m no pro and I think about the needles the entire time, but they don’t hurt at all.

Acupuncture does work, I hear. In tandem with your state of mind. Love and light to you, Tonya.

I loved this, since I too tried acupuncture when I was TTC. I felt foolish but was sure that I was releasing toxins with it. I wish you lots of luck sweet friend. Silly or not the eastern medicine is helpful!!!!

    Xo

Thank you. I’d love to hear more about your experience. Did you ever write a post about acupuncture?

So proud of you for posting this.

I believe acupuncture can work too. I tried it when Connor was breech – it didn’t turn him around but I was amazed at the physical effects. I was more relaxed and it really helped my back pain.

Hoping with all my heart it helps. xo

Thanks, Robin. It’s interesting. And I really do feel calmer, if nothing else. I will keep you posted. xo

Wow, I can’t believe you have been to all these sessions and I didn’t know about it!! Did it hurt? You know acupuncture cured mom of all her allergies so I think I’m a big believer of it. Just stay hopeful. XOXO

I didn’t mean to keep you in the dark about this, just needed to get a few sessions under my belt first.

I have tried acupuncture twice. First time was to help stop smoking and the second was for my sinus and back problems! I have had no sinus “headaches” since! I think all options are good to try and this ancient traditional Chinese medecine is harmless. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you xoxo

I’m glad you are giving this a try. I’m not pregnant yet either, but I have faith this will work. Something about the non-invasive history that makes me a believer. I am rooting for you.

I can feel your peacefulness through your words here, Tonya.
Those moments of calm and positive thought have to help.
I’m so happy that you’re doing this for yourself.
Much love to you, my friend. xoxo

I love hearing this. Acupuncture has been an incredible support for me for various health issues, and my SIL used it prior to and since her pregnancy. It was a great help for her. I think your words here were so powerful, so raw and real. I’ll keep you in my thoughts, sweet mama.
