Maybe I’m Amazed

Posted on November 21, 2011 Written by Tonya

You’re okay, you’ve got your night light and water and books and lovey.

Nothing has brought me more joy as a mother than hearing the things I’m teaching Lucas repeated back to me. I get such a thrill when I can see in his eyes that something has clicked; a new shape or color has been committed to memory or an additional lyric to a song has been learned. I love witnessing his exploratory mind hard at work taking in everything that he encounters and retains. It’s as though all of my hard work as a parent is being paid off.

Your humidifier is on and we’ll be back to check on you in a little bit.

I can’t hide my smile when Lucas uses “please” and “thank you” without being prompted.

I’m tickled every time he blesses me after a sneeze.

My heart is all a-flutter when Lucas tells me he loves me first and asks for hugs.

This morning, I walked into the living room and heard him comforting his Elmo doll just the way his father and I do at bedtime.

Mommy and Daddy love you so much. Have a good sleep.

It was our bedtime routine verbatim. Not a day goes by that I am not simply amazed by my son.

What has your child done lately that has stopped you in your tracks?

I love watching my girls when they are playing with their baby dolls and they tell them they love them or put them to bed the same way we do with the kids.

Once I even saw my oldest putting her baby in timeout the same way we did with her. It was so funny.

That is funny! I suppose they mimic what they know. 😉

My little boy blows raspberries on my belly, the way we do with him, it makes him laugh. And it makes me giggle too 🙂

Flynn pats her dolls, her brother and now the dog on the back and covers them with “blankets” (she uses the kitchen dish towel if a real blanket isn’t handy) like she’s putting them to bed. It’s very sweet. But her recent use of the word “no” while pointing and giving stink eye has really stopped me in my tracks!

Mattias was doing the million question a minute thing the other night and I don’t know if he could tell I was getting impatient or what but he got quiet then brought me a piece of paper that he had written “hug me” on one side and drew a heart on the other. Sweetness abounds.

Aw… too cute. On the other hand, the “no” thing with a stink eye is the worst!!

Abbey picks on Dylan all. the. time. So I love when I’m in the other room, and she spontaneously helps him or hugs him or coaches him on his ABCs. I hear my voice come out of her mouth, and it’s the sweetest thing, even though I know she’ll be grabbing a toy from him within minutes.

Ah ha… she’s gotta play tough girl when you’re around, but she secretly loves and cares for her little brother when you’re not. That is just precious.

Those moments are so incredibly sweet. I love when Dylan will turn to me and tell me to be careful and that he doesn’t want me to get hurt. Melts me every time.

Pride doesn’t even begin to explain how much delight Lucas brings me. I know you understand. xoxo

There are so many sweet mommy moments. Which is good b/c there are some hard ones too.

One of my favorites ever was during my pregnancy with Jolie. It was during the first trimester & I was always exhausted. It took everything I had to take a shower so I was resting on my bed trying to get the energy to get dressed for work. Andrew, barely 8 yrs old at the time, walks by & asks if I feel ok. I replied with no.. He climbs on my bed & offers me a hug b/c “hugs always me feel better Mommy.”
    I melted.

I love when they repeat the sweet stuff. With the teenager I’m starting to see the not so sweet stuff 🙂

I loved how lovey dovey he was this weekend with him. I am ALWAYS around to give plenty of hugs and kisses!! Looking forward to spending more time with him this weekend in AZ. It really is adorable when he says “I love you” and blesses me after I sneeze. XOXO

Oh how I loved this!!!! Truly, that little Lucas is simply perfect! My kids say lots of things I do…some not so good (Gio: Jacob stop your bitching and moaning…ooops!!!!!!) But then they will say things like: Jacob: Gio you did a great job, I’m so proud of you.” Gio: “Jacob I love you as high as the sky!!”

Yep, I love when words like that come back in the form of love.

That is so totally awesome. And I know just what you mean about realizing things are sinking in. Only a mother could understand that feeling.

Amelia will pat us on the back with her little hand during hugs. It’s so adorable and melts my heart every time. She’ll also occasionally ask “Are you okay?” which is what we ask her when she’s fallen down or run into something. Watching your children mimic how you love them is definitely one of the most rewarding parts of motherhood.
