Odd Ball

Posted on April 12, 2012 Written by Tonya

Last week Alison of Mama Wants This wrote a piece called Quirks, where she shared 10 strange and wonderful things she does and not only did I nod along (2. Toilet paper in my house is OVER the spool. Never under. Under bothers me. Tremendously.) but I laughed out loud (8. I don’t like uneven numbers. Like 7.), then I thought, I have some pretty strange quirks myself.

Don’t we all?

Here are 10 of my odd ball idiosyncrasies:

1. I don’t like coffee. Of any kind. In a Starbucks world, this gets a lot of strange reactions, trust me, especially when I order Chai tea lattes.

2. I organize the dollar bills in my wallet from smallest to largest with the Presidents always facing me.

3. I can’t get one hand wet without getting the other one wet too.

4. Towels in our bathrooms have to be lined up straight over the towel rack.

5. I love the beach, but despise sand.

6.Whining makes me want to mash my teeth in, especially if it’s my own son’s.

7. I don’t like to eat food with my hands. Not even pizza.

8. I an an over-stocker. I always have a Kleenex, toothpaste, toothbrushes, Q-tips and dish soap waiting in the wings; and we never run out of toilet paper or paper towels in my house.

9. One of the very first things I do in the morning (even before I pee) is make the bed. To me a made bed is the foundation for a good day.

10. I cannot start a book or movie without finishing it. There have two exceptions in the book category: The Hunger Games (I know, I know) and The Book Thief. Both are still on my book shelf and I WILL get to them. Someday…

Thanks, Alison for the idea and rest assured, you are not alone in your quirks.

Please feel free to share some of yours below! Us oddballs need to stick together.

I don’t think you’re an odd ball at all! I can’t stand coffee! The taste is so horribly bitter and I just can’t get past the flavor! Now Chai tea hot or cold is awesome!

Really?! You don’t know how happy that makes me! I really do get the strangest looks when I tell people I don’t like coffee.

I’m too scared to make a list detailing my quirks…ha!
and really? before you even pee? wow….

Please post a list! I need to know that I’m normal. And yes, before I pee. πŸ™‚

I hate when the bed’s not made. Hate. I’m never the last one out of it, which means I have to make it after I’ve left the room. I will do it even if we’re running late, because I can’t stand to see it unmade.

My mother would be SHOCKED, based on the amount of time my teenaged self spent arguing that making a bed is a pointless activity.

Yay! So happy to hear I’m not the only one with a made bed thing. πŸ™‚

I am with you on #2 and #10.

    Also…

It physically hurts me to go to bed when there are dirty dishes on the counter. I tend not to sleep well when this occurs.

The food item I like the most when eating a meal is the item I eat last. I like it to be the taste that lingers after I am done the meal.

I cannot have a serious discussion with the TV on. I am too easily distracted by it. In comparison my husband cannot have a serious discussion without it. He is distracted by the silence. I am not sure how we ever manage to have a successful discussion πŸ˜›

Ah yes, dirty dishes. I’m with you on that one. And I need the TV off too. As far as food, I just need a fork, knife and tons of napkins (even though I’m not eating with my hands, I still seem to wipe up a lot!). πŸ™‚

I love chai tea lattes. I order those more than coffee lately.

I prefer chai tea lattes and feel for you with the sand thing, but my kids have helped me overcome that! Too many others to list and now the wheels are turning I may have to post my own! BTW when visiting other peoples homes I have to fight the urge not to change the roll (it gives me anxiety to see it under) ALWAYS over!

Always over!!! πŸ™‚ Please let me know if you post your own list. I love hearing about other people’s quirks.

    TONYA!! My quirky soul sister!!

I do the dollar bill thing too – small to large, all the same side and none can be upside down.

And I love chai tea lattes!!

      Thanks, again for the idea.

Chai tea lattes are my drug.

I’m the same way with my money. All has to be facing the same way, but I prefer mine largest to smallest. I blame this on working in a restaurant and handling money so much.

  10. Katie says

    April 13, 2012 at 1:53 pm

I also do the money thing. I think it started when I was a waitress and kept all the money in my apron.

I live 5 minutes from the beach and have the same dilemma as you. It is one of my favorite places to be. But oh, the sand. And it’s SO much worse once you have kids on the beach.

and I probably whined more as a child than anyone on this earth, but the sound of whining from anyone else makes me want to stab my ears with flame sticks.

So there you go. I am an odd ball too πŸ™‚

oh, and I don’t know ANYONE who is a TP under person. Unless they just don’t care. I know people who don’t care, but I don’t know ANYONE who prefers it under. So you, me, and Alison are totally normal there. or at least that is what I tell myself!

    April 13, 2012 at 3:04 pm

Oh gosh, we were meant to be. I can’t start the day unless all of the beds in the house are made. It will drive me crazy knowing that the sheets are thrown all over. Yuck.

And the money thing? Yes. Me too. They have to go in order, neatly, all facing the same way, same side up.

Maybe I should make a list of my quirks too!

I feel you in the whole “weirdo who doesn’t like coffee” thing. In fact, the only warm drink I will drink at all is hot chocolate, which makes people give me weird looks.

I, however, like to eat any food possible with my hands. Pizza, cake, everything.

  13. Julia says

    April 15, 2012 at 3:35 pm

Dude, numbers one, two, and four I totally do. But that’s just normal…right?? πŸ™‚ And Chai tea Lattes are the best drink in the world, so no wonder that’s what we order at Starbucks. I’m pretty sure I have a Chai addiction.

  14. Leah says

    April 16, 2012 at 5:17 pm

I always have a full stock at home of toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc as well. Wonder where we get that from?? πŸ˜›
You can’t get one hand wet without getting the other wet too?? That is indeed odd sister…
