The Sweetest Thing

Posted on September 17, 2010 Written by Tonya

Last week Ember of Remember Ember passed along the sweetest thing, the Cherry on Top award.

I love receiving blog awards because they remind me that the blogging community is vast, kind, supportive and full of talented writers, smart women (and men), parents and friends.

Thanks, Ember!! I appreciate the award and look forward to getting to know you better.

Rules for this award:

  • Thank the person who awarded this to you. Well, duh!
  • Copy and put the award on your blog. 🙂
  • List 3 things which you love about yourself:

1. I don’t mind doing dishes… ever.
2. I will go the distance for a friend, literally and figuratively.
3. I always send thank you cards.

  • Post a picture that you love.

My niece took this picture last year while she, her sister and I jumped on their trampoline. I love that my head is cut off but you can still see a gigantic smile on my face.

  • Pass this on to a couple of the sweetest bloggers…because we like to share the love.

1. Blake at Cameron Crazy Mom – Her son Cameron is exactly one month younger than Lucas, her blog is adorable and she had some mad scrap booking skillz.

2. Jayme at The Random Blogette – Her honesty is refreshing and her love of Dave Matthews is shared.

3.
Tracy at A Beautiful Mess – She’s awesome, we have the same sense of humor and she’s in my ‘hood.

Happy weekend, everyone!

How Fab!

Posted on June 7, 2010 Written by Tonya

Leah, my sister and fellow blogger (LA ‘n’ LA) has awarded me with the ‘”Your Blog is Fabulous” award because as one of my three faithful, day-after-day readers and commenter’s she thinks I deserve it.

Most days I do too, if I do say so myself. I’m not a skilled writer by any stretch of the imagination, but this blog has been a very very VERY good thing for me as a new mom (since Lucas just turned one, how long can I get away with calling myself a new mom? More on that later.) and has kept my psyche in check. It is my outlet, I am thankful to have it and appreciate all my readers and their comments. I excited to share this with Lucas someday.

I haven’t even gotten to the fabulous part yet!

Unlike with most blog awards, I don’t have to do a darn thing in order to accept it,(i.e. share seven things about myself with you) aside from pass it along. Easy!

I’ve given my friend Coreen awards before and I feel as though she is still worthy. If you aren’t reading her very funny, very smart and very insightful The Adventures of Captain Fussypants, Little Miss Squeak & Caleb the Wonder Dog, you are missing out! Coreen just added a beautiful new baby girl to her mix and now has even more to share. She also just revamped her blog and it is super cute.

However, if you are still interested in learning some facts about me, check out my previous recognitions here.

Thanks, Leah!

The best is yet to be.

Me, Versatile? – Update

Posted on May 19, 2010 Written by Tonya

Last week in my Me, Versatile? post, in accepting the Versatile Award, I had to share seven things about myself and it turns out that I revealed a couple of things that caused some follow up questions both on and off line (mostly off line, so if you don’t officially follow yet, please do so).

Particularly, #s 5 and 6:

5. I have owned seven iPods… don’t ask! Let’s just say that I’m glad my husband and I own stock in Apple.

I actually need to change that to eight. Yes, it’s true! I have had two iPod Classics – one was stolen and was a wedding gift from my husband, one Shuffle, three Nanos – one was water logged, one was run over by a car and was replaced and two iPhones – one I left in the Sydney Airport on our recent trip and it’s replacement.

Crazy, I know not to mention expensive!

At this point, my do-it-all iPhone is really all I need, unless I want to talk on the phone while I walk and count my calories, miles and time using the Nike+ application. I know, I know, I’m high maintenance.

6. I was married for three years before I met Lucas’ dad. It is so bizarre to think about it now because it seems like eons ago and I don’t know that I’ve ever discussed that in my blog before.

Not sure what compelled me to share this, but I a) have no regrets about it (the marriage, not the sharing part) and am happy that my ex and are are still friends and b) am glad to learn that I am not alone. Thank you to those who shared their stories with me. At some point, I will write more about my first marriage.

The best is yet to be.

Me, Versatile?

Posted on May 13, 2010 Written by Tonya

Natalie, author of Mommy of a Monster (I Mean Toddler) and Infant Twins honored me this week with the Versatile Award and I am deeply touched.

Natalie is relatively new to the blogging world (as if I’m some old pro!?) and is doing an awesome job of sharing her crazy wonderful world of having three under three with us. If you don’t already follow her, you are missing out!

In order to accept this award, I have a few things to do:

Share seven things about myself with you.

1. If I could change the world, I’d put a little more “please”, “thank you” and “excuse me” into things.

2. Sitting in stop and go traffic makes me want to put my head through the window. It is the ONE and ONLY thing that I DON’T miss about working. I avoid the freeway like the plague during rush hours now.

3. Way before N1H1 and West Nile Virus, I was a compulsive hand washer and now that I’m a mom, it’s almost out of control.

4. I have always had a bad case of wanderlust and I wish I had more time to travel. If I could be anywhere in the world right now, it would be sitting at the Deux Magots cafe in Paris blogging and sipping a Kronenbourg 1664 (it’s okay, it’s almost 9:00 PM in Paris).

5. I have owned seven iPods… don’t ask! Let’s just say that I’m glad my husband and I own stock in Apple.

6. I was married for three years before I met Lucas’ dad. It is so bizarre to think about it now because it seems like eons ago and I don’t know that I’ve ever discussed that in my blog before.

7. I don’t have a clue how to apply eye make-up (a part form mascara, which I couldn’t live without).

For more on me, read: The Joy Of Blogging and I’ve Been Tagged.

Thank the person who gave you this award.

Thank you! Gracias! Merci! Danke! Grazie! Shukriyah! Natalie, you rock. 🙂

Pass the award on to three fellow deserving bloggers:

Leah, who’s not a mommy yet, but is my sister and writes LA ‘n’ LA about her new life and adventures in Los Angeles.

Tara, whose blog, Blondie ‘N’ SC is just too pretty and heartwarming for words. If you are seeking warm fuzzys, visit her page right away!

Coreen, mother of one and expecting Baby #2 any day now writes The Adventures of Captain Fussypants & Caleb the Wonder Dog one of the wittiest bloggers I follow.

Contact the bloggers I’ve picked and let them know about the award.

Thanks, again Natalie and happy blogging, everyone!

The best is yet to be.

I Am A Sucker For Awards Season

Posted on February 1, 2010 Written by Tonya

I love watching the Golden Globes, Emmys, Grammys and the coup de grace…the Oscars! I just love the red carpet. I’m the girl captivated in front of the TV watching the arrivals to see what everyone is wearing; the designer dresses, who’s with whom, the extravagant jewels, the hair, the makeup, all of it!

Thanks to my dear friend, Lindsey, I have been lucky enough to attend both an Emmy award ceremony (2007) and a Grammy night (2005). What a complete thrill!! Two nights I will never forget. There really is nothing like being there live.

Last night, I had to settle for watching the 56th Annual Grammy Awards from the comfort of my bed (which isn’t a bad place to be at all these days) and it was best Grammy show I had seen in a long while. There were, of course the multiple wardrobe changes and all the glitz and glamor of previous years, but the performances were breathtaking.

I was floored right out of the gate by Lady GaGa and Elton John’s opening medley of Poker Face, Speechless and Your Song and then Beyoncé kicked it in to high fierceness with If I Were a Boy and her rendition of Alanis Morissette’s You Oughta Know, and the Michael Jackson tribute was very touching, but it was Pink that had me with my jaw on the floor.

USA Today described her performance best: “The famously feisty singer/songwriter showed her dreamier, more buoyant side. A vision in white (until she disrobed, revealing a flesh-colored body suit), Pink sang sweetly and surely, even while suspended by wires, twirling in midair and soaked in water.”

If you weren’t a fan of Pink before this, I bet you are now. It was a beautiful performance and the lyrics to the song she sang, Glitter In The Air are too good not to share:

Have you ever fed a lover with just your hands?
Close your eyes and trust it, just trust it
Have you ever thrown a fist full of glitter in the air?
Have you ever looked fear in the face and said I just don’t care
It’s only half past the point of no return
The tip of the iceberg
The sun before the burn
The thunder before lightning
The breath before the phrase
Have you ever felt this way?

Have you ever hated yourself for staring at the phone?
Your whole life waiting on the ring to prove you’re not alone
Have you ever been touched so gently you had to cry?
Have you ever invited a stranger to come inside?

It’s only half past the point of oblivion
The hourglass on the table
The walk before the run
The breath before the kiss
And the fear before the flames
Have you ever felt this way?

There you are, sitting in the garden
Clutching my coffee,
Calling me ‘sugar’
You called me ‘sugar’

Have you ever wished for an endless night?
Laugh so the moon and the stars and pulled that rope tight
Have you ever held your breath and asked yourself
Will it ever get better than tonight?
Tonight

Of course, another huge highlight of the night for me was seeing my all time favorite, the Dave Matthews Band perform. Dare I say that Dave even looked rather dapper. Unfortunately, they lost out to Taylor Swift for Album of the Year, but I still heart DMB, their music always makes me smile.

The best is yet to be and I’d be lost without music.

The Joy Of Blogging

Posted on October 12, 2009 Written by Tonya

I started this blog for me and me alone as a way to keep my sanity and to someday share with my son. It has been more therapeutic than I ever thought it would be and I’m shocked and pleasantly surprised to learn that people are actually reading it. More importantly, they are also enjoying it! In fact, I just got my 10th follower today.

Recently I received a very sweet Kreativ Blog Award from Amanda {My Life Badly Written} .

The etiquette for accepting this award include:

  • Thank the person who gave the award.
  • Copy the award and place it on your blog.
  • Link to the blog that nominated you.
  • Tell your fellow bloggers seven things they may not know about you.
  • Pass it on.

So, here goes…

Seven Things About Me:
1. I will cry like a baby if the documents on my laptop are not recoverable (it is currently with the Geek Squad…fingers crossed!).
2. I want another tattoo (I currently have two).
3. I wish I knew how to play the piano.
4. I would love to be back stage at a Dave Matthews Band concert and meet the man himself (I am quite sure that anyone that knows me at all already knows this fact about me).
5. I would love to have a photographic memory.
6. I have never been on a diet.
7. I can’t believe my parents have been gone two years.

Now for paying it forward…. I’d like to recognize my friend Coreen’s blog, The Adventures of Captain Fussypants & Caleb the Wonder Dog. Coreen is a smart and beautiful mother of a rambunctious and adorable two year old. She is a very good writer and her blog on parenting is fun to read.

The best is yet to be and here’s to the joy of blogging!
