Proud Mommy Moments

Posted on October 27, 2011 Written by Tonya

Almost 28 months into this mommy gig and Lucas has single-handedly made angrier than I’ve ever been, tried my patience in ways I didn’t think were possible, made me happier and than I ever believed I could be and has had me bursting with pride, joy and love.

On this roller coaster ride, he is the boss and he is my heart.

Please follow me to The Kir Corner to read about my Proudest Mommy Moments.

Thank you, Kirsten for asking me to be a part of your wonderful series and for being a good friend. Your recent love and support mean the world to me and I’m honored to have you in my corner. xoxo

I’m A New Recruit!

Posted on May 25, 2011 Written by Tonya

Today I’m proud to be at Sluiter Nation and tickled to be Kate’s latest recruit!

Come read about a store I loathe just a little more now due to a recent visit. It’s a good one.

I cried.

I’ll give you a hint, it’s NOT Target, but they do have a popular baby registry.

Today I’m over at her place sharing one of my favorite things about being a mother… milestones.

Comments are off so there’s no pressure, just stop by and read and if you don’t know already know Kristin, (are you living under a rock?) this is your chance.

Happy weekend, everyone!

In Blogapocalypse Recovery Mode

Posted on May 15, 2011 Written by Tonya

While I am still trying to recover from last week’s blogapocalypse, where Blogger went dark for more than 24 hours and I lost not one, but TWO posts and two drafts (I AM SO MOVING TO WORDPRESS!!), please visit me at Jessica’s place.

Jessica’s blog, My Time as Mom as become one of my favorites and I am so grateful that we connected on Twitter. I don’t even mind that she kicks my ass in almost every. single. Scrabble game we play.

Okay, so, it’s getting a little annoying.

Nevertheless, I’m thrilled that she asked me to guest post for her today about Lucas’ big 2nd birthday, so please stop by and say hello and be sure to wish her little monster a very happy 2nd birthday too!

A Fact Of Life

Posted on April 26, 2011 Written by Tonya

Before Nichole, Cheryl and Katie paired me up with Jessica as my Red Dress Club’s Red Writing Hood writing partner, I didn’t know her or her story at all.

Jessica is the mother of an autistic teenager, gave birth to triplets and lost one and then had a son that is nearly Lucas’ age.
Her blog, Four Plus an Angel is beautiful, heartbreaking and inspirational. I’m honored to call her my friend and her writing, her story never ceases to move me.

Sadly, we have both suffered great loss in our lives and we write about it often. We write about our grief not because we want (or need) pity, but because it is always with us and writing about it helps. It’s healing.

I am over at Jessica’s today talking about why grief sucks. I promise it’s not all that sad, just a fact life.

Please stop by and leave us a hug.

In These Small Moments

Posted on April 17, 2011 Written by Tonya

I love Nichole.

We have bonded over many things, most notably our mutual adoration for Dave Matthews. **swoon**

I love Nichole’s blog, In These Small Moments. Her writing is strong, effortless and breathtaking. I can’t wait to meet the woman behind these beautiful words at BlogHer in August.

I look forward to Nichole’s Small Moments Mondays feature each week and I’m honored that this week, she is featuring me!

Please stop by and say hello as I share a very big small moment in my life: the moment we found out we were pregnant with our son, Lucas.

Witching Hours

Posted on March 24, 2011 Written by Tonya

Today you will find me over at Liz’s place, a belle, a bean & a chicago dog revealing a particularly dreadful time period that perhaps you can identify with if you have a toddler, had a toddler or ever were a toddler… In our house this time period is know as Witching Hours!

Liz is my fairy blogmother and has advised me on several blogging quandaries with an ease and candor that I respect and admire. Recently we took our relationship to third base (if your don’t know what that means, you have to read Liz’s post, How Twitter is Like First Base) and had a phone conversation. She is as lovely on the phone as she is on her blog and in tweets. 🙂

I was thrilled when Liz asked me to guest post for her today, so what are you waiting for, come say hello!

Date Nights

Posted on February 15, 2011 Written by Tonya

Last week, I had the honor of publishing a piece on date nights in the Studio30 Plus Magazine.

Studio30 Plus is a blogging community where people over 30 can meet, network, exchange ideas, make new friends and find new blogs to follow.

In case you missed my post, here it is:

I must confess until this past Saturday, it had been over a month since my husband and I had our last date night.

I blame myself. If your home is like ours, I am the organizer/event planner/social activity director. If I don’t schedule a babysitter or call my sister, date nights don’t happen.

I’ve been dating my husband for eight years in May and I have no intention of stopping, but the minute you have children, let’s face it, date nights become increasingly difficult to pull off.

Typically, we only get a sitter for a special occasion; a group function, a friend’s birthday party, a work or holiday event where kids aren’t invited. It’s rare that date night is just the two of us. Plus, there’s the warding off of the guilt, finding the time and funds, booking the sitter or begging family members, etc., etc., etc.

I believe one-on-one date nights are extremely important. Not every week, but certainly and at the very least, once a month. That’s only 12 times a year.

I really get into our dates and by “get into” them, I mean I spend a little extra time on my appearance; washing and blowing my hair dry, shaving both my legs and applying full make-up. It’s the least I can do when I consider 95% of the time, my husband gets yoga pants, sneakers, hair in a pony tail under a baseball cap and a gamey stench.

For us, date nights give us a chance to reconnect, catch up and spend a whole dinner [uninterrupted] gazing across the table at one another and remind ourselves that we are more than just our son’s parents.

We recall why we fell in love in the first place, remember that we are two people with many layers, interests and emotions, all while making a conscience effort NOT to talk about our son, his latest milestone or funny moment, which is always a lot easier said than done. I wish we could find the time to have more evenings out together because they always bring us closer.

By the way, on Saturday, we had drinks and an appetizer at one of our favorite restaurants, followed by sushi at another and then ended up at a neighborhood bar for a night cap. We were home by 11:00 PM.

How often do you and your husband have date nights and what are your favorite ways to spend them?
