Cruel Summer

Posted on July 26, 2010 Written by Tonya

It’s summertime? You could have had me fooled. It’s already the END of July and I feel like I’m missing it completely.

We haven’t been outside nearly as much as I thought we would this season and haven’t done any of the other things I had planned in mind.

So far there has only been one trip to the beach and just a handful of visits to the park. The BBQs have been minimal and trips to the pool have only been for swim lessons. There haven’t been any baseball games, sundresses, Popsicles, rides on beach cruisers, strolls on the beach, boat rides, sunburns (which I’m actually grateful for) or lemonade.

The weather had a lot to to with it. It’s been unseasonably overcast, rainy and even chilly this summer in San Diego and while I’d rather be cold than hot any day, it’s just not summer without the sun…

…or a Dave Matthews Band concert!! 25 days until we are sitting at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre listening to my favorite band on the planet. I really do hope that it starts feeling like summer for me before August 20. I really need to get my act together or I’m going to regret it!

Lions And Tigers And Bears

Posted on July 24, 2010 Written by Tonya

We went to the San Diego Zoo this week with our friends Colleen and Jackson.

Elephant Odyssey is one of the zoo’s newest attractions.

Both boys enjoyed getting down and dirty with the goats in the petting zoo.

Jackson really enjoyed watching the monkeys. Unfortunately, Lucas slept through this part of our visit.

Lucas made a hand print animal to document our fun day…

…a giraffe.

By the way, we did see lions and tigers and bears.

Keeping Busy

Posted on May 28, 2010 Written by Tonya

I find the busier I keep Lucas during the day, the better both our dispositions, not to mention, tiring him out usually means more naps!

Climbing the stairs is a good place to start, but doesn’t quite cut it most days, so each week we attend a music class, go for walks along the beach or throughout the small town where we live, visit each of the three different parks in our neighborhood and have Mommy & Me play dates.

I am forever trying to find fun new things for us to do in order to pass the time… especially the bewitching hours of 2:00 – 5:00.

Today we went to the Sea Life Aquarium and Legoland with our friends Jenn and her one year old, Tristan. It was a very fun day.

If you think that there isn’t anything to do for one year olds at Legoland, you are sorely mistaken. Duplo Playtown was made for toddlers with it’s little tot-sized buildings, slides and all the Duplo they can play with.

After a sufficient amount of play, we walked the boys through Miniland U.S.A., which includes reproductions of seven areas of the United States, all constructed with 20 million Legos in 1:20 scale. It truly is amazing and a definite must-see. The Las Vegas strip was my favorite.

The boys had a great time and we will be returning soon.

Wild Animal Park

Posted on March 27, 2010 Written by Tonya

Today, your aunt Leah and I took you to the Wild Animal Park. It was hot, but we still had a lot of fun.

We pet an antelope, saw a bat display, pretended we were a butterfly and took a cool ride on the merry-go-round (I even took your Doc Band off so that you could enjoy the wind), but visiting the baby elephant (born February 14) was our favorite activity.

We bought a membership, so we’ll be back soon. Next time we want to check out the gorillas!

Social Butterfly

Posted on February 26, 2010 Written by Tonya

We were suppose to do a group activity today with our Mommy & Me group, but I just wasn’t up for that yet, so instead we went to the park. It was your first visit and to say you loved it would be an understatement. Between watching the other children play and the dogs chasing balls and the nearby train zooming by, you were in heaven. There was so much for you to look at.

You were also thoroughly tickled over the swings!

Even though I thought I was sort of “hiding out” with you today, we had our first Doc Band inquiry as well. A little girl wearing a T-shirt that appropriately said “Social Butterfly” came right up to us at the park and asked me point blank, “Why is he wearing that helmet?” to which I replied after taking a deep breath, “The back of his his head is a little too flat so the helmet is going to help make it perfectly round like yours.”. Easy enough.

She stood there for a moment and then said, “Well, he’s not crying, so it must not be hurting him.” and then fluttered off.

Good point.

Beach Therapy

Posted on January 27, 2010 Written by Tonya

I love the ocean. I love the way the ocean smells. I love the way the ocean calms. I love the vastness and the way the ocean makes me feel so small. I mostly love our walks by the ocean.

I took these photos of you today with my phone, so they aren’t great.

I can tell you love the ocean too. You were enthralled with the wind, seagulls and sand.

La Jolla Motor Car Classic

Posted on January 10, 2010 Written by Tonya

La Jolla, California has long been the destination for the finer things in life. Breathtaking coastlines, exceptional cuisine, elegant homes, exquisite shopping and of course fine automobiles have been staples in this luxurious locale since the 1880s.

The La Jolla Historical Society paid tribute to some of the world’s finest automobiles today at the 6th Annual La Jolla Motor Car Classic, at the beautiful La Jolla Cove. Your dad’s company is a major sponsor of this event and here are some fun photos from our day:

You sure did seem to know your way around that pricey 1967 Porsche 910. Do you also happen to have $1,000,000 laying around? 🙂

Little Pumpkin

Posted on October 17, 2009 Written by Tonya

Your first Halloween is just around the corner and to celebrate, your aunt Leah and I took you to Bates Nut Farm and pumpkin patch with our Mommy & Me group today.

The pumpkin fields are beautiful and are surrounded by tall gorgeous cornstalks and bright, happy sunflowers. It was over 100 degrees in the shade, but you were a good sport while we positioned you among the pumpkins in hopes of capturing your best shot.

Too bad your dad is away on a work trip and missed all the fun.
