Enough

Posted on March 28, 2011 Written by Tonya

I had heard about this viral video but hadn’t watched it until today.

Is this really what our young people are capable of?

A teen gets bullied one too many times and finally snaps and another gets body slammed for thinking he’s better, smarter, faster, more powerful? Insane!

I’m sad and disturbed and want to sign my son up for karate as soon as he’s old enough.

17 Months

Posted on November 19, 2010 Written by Tonya

We are just weeks away from the year and a half mark and Lucas is growing and changing and learning everyday. Here’s what he has been up to this month:
  • Asks for help when he needs it most of the time.
  • Says “thank you” most of the time. We are working on “please”.
  • Grabs our hands and says “hand” when he wants to take us somewhere, but isn’t always quite sure where.
  • Climbs on everything.
  • Loves to practice using keys, utensils and hair brushes.
  • Has officially given up his morning nap and fairly consistently sleeps from 1:00 – 3:00.
  • Has major separation anxiety upon one or both of us leaving, but it soon subsides, or so we’ve been told.
  • Has become leery of the dark.
  • Still prefers the bottle over a sippy cup, but will drink juice and water from time to time.
  • Has started drinking cow’s milk!! Yay, no more stinky formula.
  • Enjoys throwing toys when he’s grown tired of them and dumping his food on the floor when he’s done eating. Good times.
  • Loves being a passenger on Daddy’s bike ride.
  • Is learning family members names.
  • Has learned how to pull his pull toys.

We are so lucky to have this little boy in our lives.

Reflections Of Motherhood

Posted on September 16, 2010 Written by Tonya

Oh, sooner or later a change must come
Oh, sooner than later, we become.
Morgan Clamp

I needed to see this video today.

I needed to know that I am beautiful, imperfect is the new perfect and that this too shall pass.

I know I’m not alone.

Many of you mothers or soon to be mothers will also appreciate it.

Thanks Jen at Not Just Another Jen for posting this wonderful video on your Facebook page.

No Complaints Here

Posted on August 13, 2010 Written by Tonya

Instead of flipping stuff off today, which I enjoy doing oh so much, I thought I would switch gears a little.

Okay, a lot!

On Monday, I blogged about being On My Own for the week while my husband is away on business. We are on Day 4/7 and so far so good. We have gone though a mega-size package of Boogie Wipes, countless boxes of Kleenex and OJ and watched too much television, but we are hanging tough!

On Tuesday, my friend posted this video (Soldiers Surprising Their Loved Ones: PART ONE) on her Facebook page and I haven’t been able to shake it from my mind ever since. As I watched it, tears rolled down my face because it put being apart and the challenges of doing it on my own into a whole new perspective.

The men and women that are serve our country deserve our thanks and our respect, but the family that they leave at home deserve that and a whole lot more in my mind, especially the children. They are so young and don’t understand the concept of war or death. They know Daddy’s hugs and the way he smells and he makes them feel protected.

Just look at these faces when they see their loved one return home. Safely. After months of asking “when’s Daddy coming home?” and wondering “is he okay?” and “when will I see him again?”; it’s pure joy, utter disbelief, delight and love.

I have NOTHING to complain about!

Happy Friday, everyone. Have a glorious weekend!

The best is yet to be.

The Gift Of An Ordinary Day

Posted on January 22, 2010 Written by Tonya

My mother-in-law sent me this beautiful video today of best-selling author Katrina Kenison reading to a group from her latest book, The Gift Of An Ordinary Day: A Mother’s Memoir.

Please don’t be discouraged by the length; it’s a little over seven minutes long, but worth every single one.

May we all embrace the gift of an ordinary day.

The best is yet to be.

More On Stuff

Posted on October 24, 2009 Written by Tonya

I love comedian George Carlin, who we unfortunately lost last year to heart failure. After my post yesterday, I remembered he had a hilarious routine around the concept of “stuff”.

Check it out on You Tube.

Carlin’s belief was that we all have a large supply of stuff, possibly too much stuff, but we insist on storing it in smaller and smaller containers of stuff. When our closets become full of too much stuff, we move some of it to drawers. If we need stuff for vacation, we put some of our original stuff in suitcases. We even buy smaller versions of stuff just to have on hand when we leave our big stuff behind on a trip and on and on it goes….

The best is yet to be minus some of the stuff.
