You Know You’re A Mom When-sDaze

Posted on October 20, 2010 Written by Tonya

You know you’re a mom when…

  • Inevitably, immediately after finishing your chores, just when you are about to sit down and relax, your child will throw up all over himself and the freshly cleaned floors for no apparent reason.
  • You keep thinking: maybe this time he won’t eat the crayons.
  • You are shocked, amazed and more than slightly annoyed that when your son doesn’t go to sleep until after 9 PM, he still wakes up at 5 AM!
  • You are shocked, amazed and more than slightly annoyed that with all the toys your kid has, he wants to play with a stapler, sunglasses, clock, wallet and trash can.
  • There will come a day when your tot will ask to have Cheez-Its for breakfast and you will give them to him.
  • You’re a little sad each time you have to retire a favorite article of your child’s clothing.

You Know You’re A Mom When-sDaze

You know you’re a mom when…

  • Whatever you’re eating is way more interesting and/or delicious than whatever your child is eating and you gladly turn it over to them, even if you are both eating the exact same thing.
  • It’s 3 o’clock in the morning and you are singing Prince’s 1999 because you’re out of lullabies.
  • You’re a fool to think just because your toddler is awake from 2:30 – 4:30 that they’ll sleep in.
  • You think your child’s artwork is frame worthy, even if he’s only 16 months old.
  • You publicly (via Facebook) apologize to your neighbors for your child’s loud melt down. That was really funny, Juli!
  • You are more than slightly annoyed when you return home from being gone for a few hours to a child that has already napped for the sitter. This only means one thing: it’s going to be a long afternoon!
  • You can forget about watching any of your programs while your child is present. You couldn’t hear them or follow along even if you tried.
  • While you may enjoy a raining day every once in a while, it means someone is going to be bouncing off the walls by noon if you don’t come up with fun and tiring activity.
  • You are amazed every day that this little person that you made from scratch is yours…smiles, tears, giggles, temper tantrums and all.

You Know You’re A Mom When-sDaze

You know you’re a mom when…

  • As soon as you paint your finger nails, your child wakes up from a nap. Grrr…
  • If left to his own devices, your tot would sit in front of the television all. day. long.
  • You rejoiced the day your child tried a vegetable for the umpteenth time and not only liked it, asked for more!
  • Your kid has had a melt down at a restaurant, so you packaged up the entire meal to-go and downed a full glass of wine in one gulp quicker than you could say “check, please!”
  • No matter how high you put things in your home, your child finds a way to get them anyway.
  • You can’t go anywhere and see older children without thinking, “we’ll be there soon enough”… or younger children and think, “aw, I remember when…”.
  • Based on the crankiness level of your child, you can tell when any given situation is going to go completely south and must be aborted immediately.
  • Your heart melts every time you see that sweet innocent smile even if the body it’s attached to is up to no good.

You know you’re a mom when…

  • Your carpets look worse than ever.
  • You run up and down the stairs so many times a day it should be considered a cardio workout.
  • You know the difference between a jogger, “mall” and travel/umbrella stroller.
  • Every single time you turn around, there is another mess to pick up, clean up or step over.
  • You think everyone (including yourself) drives too fast, doesn’t say ‘please’, ‘thank you’ or ‘excuse me’ enough.
  • You know that there is nothing more peaceful than a sleeping baby in your arms or the smell of their sweet sweet baby breath.

Check out what makes other moms moms at Mommy of a Monster.

You know you’re a mom when…

  • You’re grateful for any and all naps, no matter how short they may be.
  • A rare GNO is all fun and games until you wake up the next morning hungover and have to care for your tot. Ugh! When will I learn?
  • You will endure episode after episode of Play With Me Sesame and The Backyardigans because they calm your child and the look on his face is pure delight.
  • No matter how many times you triple check the diaper bag, you will forget something absolutely essential.
  • You think to yourself almost on a daily basis “boy, this kid goes through diapers/ shoes/formula/yogurt/puffs etc., etc. fast!”.
  • You wonder how on earth you are going to keep up with all the Fall shows. Thank goodness for TiVo!
  • Even though you may think your voice is horrendous, your child doesn’t and that’s a good thing because you l-o-v-e singing to him.

If you nodded at even one of these, you know you could come up with your own list. Share them with us by linking up at Mommy of a Monster.

You Know You’re A Mom When-sDaze

You know you’re a mom when…

  • You are thankful for your mom friends that always carry snacks. I am trying to get better at this, I promise!!
  • You feel like you need a sign pasted to your forehead that says: I ONLY HAVE TWO HANDS!
  • You often only have time to shave one leg.
  • You offer your child multi-colored Post-It notes to play with and then find them all over your house… for days.
  • You can’t do anything without a little helper following you around, only he’s no help whatsoever, but the leg hugs are cute.
  • Friends get “stuck” in the backseat of your car because of the child safety locks and they can’t roll down the windows either.
  • As much as your child drives you to the point of insanity, after 15 months with him, you can can say that you can’t imagine a world without them.

If you have similar “mom” moments, be sure to link up and share them at Mommy of a Monster. Thanks, again Natalie for taking over this meme. I don’t know what I’d do without it.

You Know You’re A Mom When-sDaze

I love Arizona Mama’s meme You Know You’re a Mom When-sDaze and I missed participating last week because I was busy celebrating my one year blogoverary and had a guest poster, who turns out is the new owner of this terrific meme, my friend Natalie at Mommy of a Monster. Yay!

You know you’re a mom when…

  • Your house doesn’t have enough wall space for all the photos you take of your child or the artwork they create.
  • You rack your brain each morning coming up with a fun and tiring outing for the day.
  • You consider the person that created spray on sunscreen a genius.
  • You consider the person that created (most) sippy cups a complete idiot.
  • You pity the busboy that has to clean up your table after you leave a restaurant and always over tip out of utter embarrassment.
  • You realize that some meals are all about what your kid will eat not how messy they (or your floor) get in the process.
  • You would do anything in your power to take away your child’s pain or frustration or anger, even and especially if it is directed at you.

You Know You’re A Mom When-sDaze

You know you’re a mom when…

  • You spend at least 30 minutes each night after your child goes to sleep reassembling your house. Sometimes it’s just easier to let them empty the entire contents of your drawers, than pick up after them as they go. I have learned this the hard way!!
  • Your computer screen has little tiny finger prints all over it, your phone has a new crack and your remote control is probably broken.
  • You consider the hand held vacuum cleaner one of the greatest inventions ever and aren’t ashamed to admit you have used it, not only on your floors and counter tops, but on your child as well.
  • You are beyond grateful for the LOCK button on your refrigerator’s ice and water dispenser.
  • You wonder why there aren’t PSAs warning us of the dangers involved with turning around to give your child a toy, book, snack or bottle while driving.
  • You give yourself a mental ‘pat on the back’ for making it through yet another day every night just before your head hits the pillow in pure utter exhaustion and delight.

I look forward to coming up with this list every week, Arizona Mamma, so thank you for developing the meme. Otherwise I fear I’d just have all these ‘you know you’re a mom whens bouncing around my head’. Please visit Our Daze in the Sun for more!

The best is yet to be.

You know you’re a mom when…

  • You use your “baby talk” out in public among adults. Whoopsy!
  • Just when you think your home is sufficiently baby proofed, your toddler finds something totally obscure to get in to and/or possibly destroy.
  • No matter how Norman Rockwell you envision an outing or meal at a restaurant going, your child always has an entirely different agenda.
  • There is nothing quite like the sound of silence. All hail, NAPS!!
  • You’d do anything to prevent your tot from getting your cold, but to stop kissing and hugging them is definitely out of the question! Bring on the baby Tylenol and Boogie Wipes.

Thank you, Arizona Mama at Our Daze in the Desert for this creating this terrific meme. If you feel like nodding along to lists by other moms just like you, check it out and join along in the fun.

You Know You’re a Mom when…

  • You still have to psych yourself up to change a really super nasty stinky dirty diaper.
  • Like it or not, multitasking is now second nature and an art form that is sometimes beautiful to watch.
  • You would rather just leave (a restaurant, store, friend’s house) than deal with a cranky kid…at least there is a possibility that he’ll fall asleep on the car ride home.
  • You don’t think being a stay at home mom would be that bad, if you had a personal assistant, live-in maid, trainer, driver and cook.
  • You count down the hours until your next date night or girl’s night out, just so you can burn off some steam, dress like a lady and enjoy some time off.
  • You believe that putting on a child’s shoes has got to require a college degree of some sort. Why is it so difficult?!
  • You are beyond grateful for your fellow mom friends. They are with you in the trenches every day supporting and encouraging you every step of the way and often teaching you a useful tip or trick.

Thank you, Arizona Mama at Our Daze in the Desert for this creating this terrific meme. If you feel like nodding along to lists by other moms just like you, check it out and join along in the fun.
