10 Sounds That Make Me Want To Mash In My Teeth

Posted on July 29, 2012 Written by Tonya

My husband and I were just discussing this and I even went as far as looking up what the 10 most annoying sounds are. Needless to say, my list is a little different:

1. Hearing people eat or drink, particularly when they gulp, smack or are utterly disgusting while doing it.

2. Idling cars.

3. Package opening, crumbling, or awful attempts to cover either in a movie theater.

4. Whining, especially when it’s coming from MY kid.

5. The buzzing sound my washing machine makes when it’s complete.

6. The gardener’s leaf blower. As Lucas has been taught: “we like the gardener, but we don’t don’t like his machine”.

7. Balloon screeching.

8. Most children’s toys, especially the loud sing-songy ones with teh too catchy tunes that stick in your head for days.

9. Fire alarms. Like mother, like son?

10. Incessant clicking of a pen or tapping of a pencil.

Linking up with Stasha of The Good Life’s Monday Listicles, a meme right up my alley, because I LOVE making lists!

This week’s topic is 10 Sounds That Drive You Bonkers.

Oh those crazy sing-song toys. So glad we are past that stage!

    Loud toys drive me insane!

Also, there’s one app on the iPad that teaches kids about sounds that vehicles make. The unique thing about it is, people make those sounds on the app and it’s SUPER ANNOYING. It is a great fun app though, so there’s that 🙂

ack…balloon screeching…makes me want to hurl.

Whining is definitely up there on my list. I can’t STAND whining. I’d rather listen to a baby scream than whimper and whine.

Don’t forget mouth breathing. Right up there with eating with your mouth open, but below whining. 🙂 Ellen

Any loud noise in a movie theater drives me crazy! Nicely played.

I used to think noisy toys were “cute”…that was BEFORE I had kids and had them going all.day.long! OMG!

Pen-clicking…AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Can you tell I can relate to this one???) ;P

Why is the person with the plastic covered candy always sitting right behind me in the theater and why does it always take ten minutes to open and then they stick their hand in said bag every 15 seconds thereafter.

I forgot to add balloons to my list. I will now live vicariously through you.

Loud eaters are gross. Period. I also hate pen clickers, and *may* have snatched a pen or two away in my day in a clicking-induced fury. 😉

Toys with batteries are evil! And I read somewhere it was proven parents can tune out their kids crying but not whining. Sounds about right?

I forgot how much I hate hearing people eat or drink! Grrr….

I hate all the noises on your list, but I’m not a reference! I’ve become noise-allergic, especially since we moved here! There seem to be noises all. day. long in N.C. People listerning to music with the basses’ level at its max, motorbikes, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, WORKERS (since we moved into this house, 3 years ago) 2 houses nextdoor were/are being built! I hate any repeative kind of noise. Maybe I’m pissed today because I have a splitting headache and it makes me even more hypersensitive to noise 😉 I sound terrible, but I totally get your post and I suffer from tinnitus, so it can’t help…
However, there are SOUNDS that I love hearing: kids laughing & singing, birds, the ocean, rain falling, good music, and the list goes on and on and on 🙂 Just the post I needed today 🙂

The children’s toys was a great call on annoying sounds.

  19. BonnyBard says

I hate package opening, crinkling too! But for some reason I hate other kids’ whining more than my own kids… I can pretty much tune out my kids whereas new whining grates on my nerves.

  20. Katie E says

    July 30, 2012 at 8:34 am

Good ones! #10 drives me crazy, too. Anyone who has a kind of nervous twitch like that – especially one that’s noisy – and they don’t even realize they’re doing it!

  21. christina says

it’s amazing how many of us have #1 on the list yet it happens all the time.

  22. Sherri says

Ugh, the noises…I love me some quiet. Birds chirping, and QUIET.

  23. Jill says

Okay, all of them are great. Especially loved #3, 7, and 10!

  24. Sara says

    Love your list! Especially #8 & #10!

  25. Rach (DonutsMama) says

    July 30, 2012 at 12:56 pm

Oh, people opening packages at the movie theater drives me insane too! It’s so rude!

  26. Sarah says

    July 30, 2012 at 3:42 pm

Definitely with you on the whining from my own child but my ultimate least favorite sound is that of a bathroom fan – both the hand blowing kind and the kind you turn on to prevent mold when the shower is on. Cannot stand either of those sounds. I also cannot stand the sound of the jets in a hot tub. Takes the relaxation out of it for me.

  27. Katie says

    July 30, 2012 at 7:10 pm

gum chewing (any sound that involves spit, actually)

    knuckle cracking

tapping of any kind (fingers, pencil, foot)

and ANY whining. I think adult whining is almost worse than kid whining. but it is all pretty bad.

  28. Audrey says

    July 31, 2012 at 6:24 am

Toys with batteries should be banned, although I would rather listen to them then whining

  29. Diane says

    July 31, 2012 at 1:17 pm

    Excellent choices!
I’d have to say I agree with all of them!

  30. Jessica says

Oh man those children’s toys with the songs that get stuck in my head drive me crazy!!!

An intriguing discussion is worth comment. I think that you simply really should write even more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but commonly men and women are not enough to speak on such topics. To the next. Cheers
