In Praise Of The Lovey

Posted on October 21, 2013 Written by Tonya

It’s been camping and to Disney Land, attends preschool every day he does and we wouldn’t dream of taking a vacation without it.

It has been gripped tightly on Ferris wheel rides, throughout Christmas pageants, while trick or treating, scary scenes in movies and lovingly caressed during story time.

The poor thing has been dragged through airports, zoos, parks and tossed up in the air, gotten stuck on walls and in the refrigerator.

It has cleaned up the most unspeakable messes when nothing else was available.

Luckily there are four, all equally loved, but only one original.

Once known as his “ya ya”, Lucas first took to his lovey at just 10 months old. It has been a constant source of love and security ever since and is my hero because it has the ability to comfort him in ways I can’t or haven’t yet learned.

Does your child have a favorite item that they cling to when the going gets tough?

    Oh, loveys!
My oldest has a blue blankie that he’s had since he was a baby, and he drags it everywhere when he’s at home, he’s nearly 4!
My youngest has two – a dog and a bunny . He lost the elephant in Australia on the first day. We call them his ‘entourage’. 🙂

We have loveys. How I love the loveys.
My youngest has a fuzzy blue blanket that comes everywhere with us.
Also, those photos are so precious!

My kids had “blankies” that they dragged around, but they weren’t overly attached to them. They still sleep with stuffed animals on occasion out of habit. Love your photo collage!

My girls come and go with various loveys, but they do have favorite blankies that they snuggle with now that they are too big to actually be covered up with them. Each girl got a homemade blankie from a great aunt, but Zoe tossed hers aside in favor of a ratty blanket with a few holes in it. 🙂

My oldest had a blankie that she took with her every single place we went and if we tried to swap it with the other one that was identical she knew.
She still has it too even though she’s almost 18.

Lovies (dou-dous) are very big in France. Once when all the 10 grandkids were vacationing in Brittany, the uncles kidnapped the duo-dous and ransomed them for a treasure hunt. The kids were totally enthralled!

My oldest has “Mr. Blue”, half dog/half blanket. He is pretty much “over” him but still has him. My middle one has a small, not-really-stuffed anymore cat, “Meow Meow” that he still takes places (mostly just on trips) and K has “L.C.” (short for Lamb Chop), again, half lamb/half blanket that goes A LOT of places with us still and that she must have at bed time.

I think I need to do a post about this. Lovies are VERY important around here! Good on you for having back-ups!! ;D

Only my youngest daughter is attached to “Panda” – a ratty old panda bear stuffed animal that I bought before I even had kids because I thought it was really cute. She adores that thing (and she’s 9).

Ahhh, both of my boys (and husband) have blankies. We’ve only ever allowed them to sleep with them, or hang out on the couch with them while at home. I’ve seen my bro and sis in law have to drive around late at night searching for their lost blankets and vowed never to let that be me. Having multiples is a great idea though. The blankets that they sleep with were all hand made by their great grandmother (including my husband’s – his grandmother) and they are very dear to the family. 🙂

    Those pictures are so cute!

Neither of my boys has a lovey, though Ethan has something in his crib that he will hold as he goes to sleep sometimes. We tried really hard to get Connor to take a lovey (anything, as long as he had something to comfort him) but no luck.

Love that Lucas has a cherished one. 🙂

Oh, yes, indeed! I just went to my son’s room to check on him, as he was stirring in his sleep, and he kissed his lovey in his sleep. SO SWEET.

I love all these pictures! It’s hard to believe he was ever so little!! I think it’s pretty amazing that SO early on in life, he found something that he could turn to for support and love. It’s pretty genius! I wish that I had one object that if I just held, I could feel instantly feel better about everything going on life.

Casio watches have managed to unerringly keep their range in the very forefront of modern style. And even more than that, their designs never seem to become dated. A Casio watch will look as good in years to come as it does today. This makes Casio watches the perfect choice for any occasion and for any reason. There is a wide choice from the minimalist simple and plain look, to the more rugged and chunky feel, with everything you might imagine in between.
