Being Human

Posted on December 3, 2011 Written by Tonya

This week I received two birth announcements, learned that three friends are newly pregnant and to really rub it in, a darling new baby boutique just opened down the street from my house. Don’t even get me started on the Duggar’s.

Seriously, it is enough to push me right over the edge, but I won’t let it.

This year I suffered two miscarriages, my third and fourth, one in January and one in November. The latter was via IVF. Nice way to bookend the year, huh?

I’m allowed to be a little edgy, aren’t I?

Before this gets too ranty, I am truly happy for my friends and their new little bundles of joy and very excited for the others that are anticipating their second, third and FOURTH children.

I am also more grateful than words could ever express for my son, Lucas. He is a gift and some days I think if it weren’t for his smiling little face, I don’t know what I would do.

And to set the record straight, I don’t really feel as though anything is being “rubbed in my face”. Not intentionally anyway. Good news is meant to be shared and I love good news!

I have a deeper respect for my friend Coreen, who called to tell me about her new addition personally. Thank you, Coreen, I’m wishing you nothing but the best. xoxo

I’m just sad and frustrated and confused and completely inpatient. Not to mention, angry at my body’s unwillingness to cooperate one more time. I’m only human and I know that my feelings are normal, but DAMN IT, I hate that I have them. I hate that I feel like a failure. I hate not knowing what’s wrong, I hate the aging process and what it does to your reproductive system, I hate having my nerves on full alert, I hate doctor’s offices, shots, blood draws, waiting, worrying [please stop me anytime], but I mostly hate grieving for someone I’ve never even met.

HOWEVER, at the end of the day I remain hopeful and I know someday, somehow, I will have good news of my own to share.

It’s Just One Of Those Days

Posted on January 19, 2011 Written by Tonya

Nothing is going right today.

It’s freezing outside, I’m up to my eyeballs in chores I’d rather not do, but have put off all week so here I am waiting to fold the fifth load of laundry for the day.

I’m feeling feisty and pissy and just not in the mood.

I hope you will indulge me for a few minutes while I get some things off my chest while I share my annoyances with you.

Uneven sidewalks piss me off, particularly when pushing a stroller. I’m not referring to the cracks, I’m talking about the dips that make people’s driveways that pop up in the sidewalks.

I end up walking in the street and then get honked at, which is just rude.

Story time at the library in a room that is way too small full of toddlers that are hacking away and have faucets of snot running out of their noses is not my idea of a fun outing. C’mon people, I understand needing to get out of the house, but really? If you’re kid is sick, please stay home!

Back to laundry, which I’m going blame for today’s foul mood. I hate it when I discover after the fact that a bra, pair of workout pants or other clothing item has found it’s way into the dryer when I would normally hang dry them. Grrr.

As a side note, I just folded 24 shirts so now my arms hurt.

You think I’m kidding.

I’m really annoyed today by lurkers… people that creep around on my blog (the infamous Boycott American Women dude commented on one of my posts with his personal agenda of bad mouthing women – his comment has since been deleted forever – and other people that I actually know and usually enjoy being around in real life) and don’t leave comments, but LOVE gathering information on me and my family to a) either talk about with other people behind my back or b) mention it to me in a way that makes it seem like I’ve told them first hand live and in person. This creeps me out!

Note to self: if I write about it on my blog, it’s out there in the world and obviously fair game.

Speaking of people that creep me out, why do people have to encroach on my personal space at places like the grocery store check out line? When I’m done, you’ll know it. Until then, back the hell up!

I’ve just about had it with the battery life on my laptop and iPhone. If we can put a man on the moon, why can’t we design a battery that lasts longer than six hours? As I type this, I currently have 9% battery on my computer. Lame!!

Okay, I think I’m done.

For now.

Thanks, I needed that. I promise to return to my regularly scheduled program tomorrow.

But for now, I really do wish I was here.

A Whirlwind Weekend

Posted on August 19, 2010 Written by Tonya

Ah, it’s finally Friday!

I am so excited about my weekend that I could pee in my pants. We have not one but TWO Dave Matthews Band shows with my husband’s 20 year *gulp* high school reunion in between.

The first concert is tonight in San Diego and these tickets:

have been on the refrigerator staring at me for months!! I love Dave and the boys and look forward to seeing them every summer. This will be my 18th and 19th show, much to my husband’s chagrin. He has fun, but he’d never admit it.

I can’t really explain why I love the Dave Matthews Band so much. Their music livens my soul, lifts my spirits and makes me believe in hope, peace and harmony for all mankind. Oh, and I think the lead singer is an amazing talent and in the words of my new favorite blogger, Roxanne at Days, “I’d lick his teeth”.

Tomorrow morning, we leave bright and early for the Bay Area for the reunion. Lucas grandparents will watch him while we mix and mingle and then we head home for show #2 in LA.

This second show is not on DMB’s tour schedule because it’s being hosted in someone’s – wait for it – BACKYARD!! Talk about peeing in my pants!! Can you say: once in a lifetime opportunity?! The event benefits the Tuition Assistance Fund at Heschel West Day School in Agoura, California by providing need-based scholarship to students. Heschel West teaches children in preschool through 5th grade “how to do things right and to do the right thing”. I cannot wait to report back on this. 🙂 🙂 🙂 Unfortunately no cameras or videos are allowed. 🙁 🙁 🙁

If you’re still with me, I bet you’re wondering what on earth I have to Flip Off today. Well, true, my life is pretty damn good right now, but I can ALWAYS find something irritating. This was a great week so I only have one teensy tiny flip and that honor is bestowed upon:

PACKING!

I hate packing.

I hate packing for a weekend, a long weekend, a week, even an overnight. It was bad enough when it was just me, but now that I have to pack for a 14 month old as well, I want to pull my hair out.

I pride myself on my ‘To Do’ lists and being uber organized, but when it comes to packing… ugh! Forget it! FLIP OFF!! The difficulty for me lies within the question: How am I suppose to know what I’m going to want to wear there based on what I feel like wearing today? And don’t even get me started on shoes! For Lucas, it’s: What if he has a blow out or gets sick, are two outfits a day going to be enough? Will it be chilly, will the hotel have sheets and blankets for the crib, etc. etc. etc.

If there was a company that would pack for me, I would seriously hire them, without even blinking an eye!

Thank you to Gigi at Kludgy Momfor this fun and very necessary (some weeks more than others) meme. This week she is taking her flips across the Atlantic to Pumpkin and Piglet in the U.K.

I hope everyone has a happy and safe weekend and please be sure to come back next week as I celebrate my one year blogoversary!

The best is yet to be.

FRIDAY FLIP OFFS #7

Posted on August 6, 2010 Written by Tonya

Ah, Friday… my favorite day of the week! Time to rid myself of all of the little annoyances I have been experiencing since last Friday. In no particular order, they are:

#1 Hangovers can FLIP the hell right OFF! Oh my goodness I must be getting old, but yesterday’s hangover was a doozy! My head hurt, my body ached and I couldn’t quench my thirst to save my life. My husband and I had a little too much fun celebrating our three year anniversary on Wednesday night. NOTE TO SELF: Bars on bikes will get you every time.

#2 Okay, all you pet owners… PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOGS, please!!! I walk through my neighborhood almost every day of the week and it’s like avoiding landmines out there. Maneuvering around poop is hard enough but 90% of the time I also have a stroller with me. FLIP OFF!!

#3 I don’t think I’ve participated in a Friday Flip Offs without bitching around traffic, so in keeping up with that tradition… I spend a lot of time in the car and on the 5 Freeway and I don’t mind driving all that much, but I HATE sitting in traffic, especially unnecessary traffic which 9 times out of 10 involves Looky-Lous. Aggghhh… FLIP OFF! Move along people, there is nothing to see. For the love of God, just drive!

#4 Last but not least, I’m repeating myself by flipping off the ever UNpopular most detested household chore: l a u n d r y. I hate it!! Flip Off! Go Away! Scram.

Whew, I feel better. Do you? Thank you to Kludgy Mom for developing this awesomest meme. Gigi, you rock!!

Happy weekend, everyone!

The best is yet to be.

Friday’s Flippity Flip Offs #6

Posted on July 30, 2010 Written by Tonya

It’s that time of the week again and as always, I am ready to flip stuff off in a BIG way, starting with…

#1 The fasteners on shopping carts and restaurant high chairs that are suppose to securely keep your tot strapped in, but half the time are broken! FLIP OFF!

#2 Junk mail and spam deserve a big HUGE FLIP OFF! How do “they” get my address anyway?! The paper kind is not only annoying, it destroys trees and clogs our landfills and the electronic kind is just plain annoying.

I once spent over an hour calling every single catalog company that you can think of asking to be removed from their mailing list and do you know that only ONE company asked me why. Pottery Barn. God bless ’em. It took two months, but eventually we stopped getting all catalogs… we still get tons of other junk mail that drives me insane.

As far as the e-mail kind, sure, it’s easy enough to hit the delete button or take the time to “unsubscribe”, but I’d really just rather have an ‘In Box’ full of mail I actually want to read, rather than a bunch of crap I don’t.

#3 People that use ‘honey’, ‘sweetie’, ‘baby’, ‘dear’ (THE WORST OF THE BUNCH!!) and other terms of endearment WHEN THEY DON’T EVEN KNOW ME! Arrrgggg… so annoying! Please FLIP OFF, love.

#4 Predictive text can FLIP OFF! I realize it is a setting that I can control, but it’s so frustrating when your phone turns ‘so’ into ‘do’ and ‘seacliff’ into ‘deadlier and won’t let me use (type) ‘hell’.

Thank you to Gigi of Kludgy Mom for this most refreshing, rejuvenating and really awesome meme.

Happy weekend, everyone!

The best is yet to be.

Virtual Flip Offs #5

Posted on July 23, 2010 Written by Tonya

I missed last week’s Friday Flip Offs, so bear with me friends, I have a lot of pent up flips to share:

#1 People that have no concept of personal space need to back the hell up and FLIP WAY OFF.

Whether, it’s in line at the grocery store or sitting next to me in a doctor’s office waiting room, my space is mine, not yours and I don’t want to feel you sneeze or smell your breath. I don’t like to be crowded in or touched by anyone that I’m not related to or have known longer than an hour. You give me the heeby-jeebies!

#2 When walking to my car with stroller in tow, I’m going to need several minutes to put my tot in the car, fold and stow the stroller and get myself situated, so for all of you that like to creep behind me in your cars because you think my parking space is 50 feet closer to the entrance, FLIP OFF!!! Park somewhere else and do the extra walking, you probably need it!

#3 My hair deserves a BIG F-you! I am so tired of blowing it straight and flat ironing the hell out of it because it is a wavy mess. We have always had a love/hate relationship and I’m over it! I’m asking for a Brazilian blowout for the next gift giving holiday.

#4 And last, but not least, I have a special FLIP OFF for the navigation system in my car. It usually gets me where I need to go, but I hate the fact that I can’t enter an address or make a change to anything previously entered unless the car is in Park. This is a colossal pain-in-the-ass and extremely annoying. Every other car I have had or been in, lets you be the judge of potentially dangerous button pushing while driving. I really need to look into tripping the system.

A HUGE big thank you to Gigi of Kludgy Mom for developing this much needed weekly virtual detox!

Happy Friday, everyone.

The best is yet to be.

I’m Flipping Off Stuff…AGAIN! #4

Posted on July 9, 2010 Written by Tonya

This was a really crummy week so coming up with this week’s Flip Off list took no time at all. As always, my deepest appreciate to Gigi at Kludgy Mom for developing this beautiful virtual detox meme!

#1 Part of the reason this week sucked was because I woke up every morning with an flipping achy back, stiffness all over and sore neck. We have a Sleep Number Bed and four years ago when we first got it, I loved it. I had found my perfect sleep number (55) and stuck with it without any discomfort, but now the bed does nothing but irritate me and I want it gone!! It has no bounce, no spring and no flexibility. It’s time to go back to a box spring with a pillow top and some give. FLIP OFF, SLEEP NUMBER! And for the record, my husband has had these complaints since day 1. When will I ever listen?!

#2 Stores that have the extra cashiers but don’t utilize them deserve a big FLIP OFF! I walked out of a very popular children’s clothing store recently leaving behind a cute and much needed pile of clothes for Lucas. They were on sale AND I had a coupon! The line of customers was wrapped around the store and out the front door and they only had ONE person ringing everyone up. Several customers, including myself asked if there was anyone else to help us and she was paged to the front but never showed up. I mentioned this was a children’s store, didn’t I? There were just as many kids on the verge of melt downs as there were parents. So frustrating!!

#3 I am pissed off at the entire medical profession this week. I now know why they call it “practicing medicine” because that’s exactly what it is… practicing. Doctors really don’t always have the answers.

I am grateful for medicine, doctors and scientists and the fact that our bodies are such mysteries, but sometimes when there is no rhyme or reason, no medical explanation available and Mother Nature just makes it so, I want to scream at the top of my lungs FLIP OFF!!! Most of the time the logical side of my brain can accept this, but then there are other times when my heart wants answers, facts and proof. I need to know WHY!?

#4 My sister and I inherited our parents home in Arizona and each month we pay the electric, water and phone bills. No one lives in the house so these bills are minimal, but recently I took a closer look at the phone bill and thought that I could remove some of the services and lower it.

I contacted the phone company (to be remain nameless but name is similar to a direction and rhymes with west) to see if they could help me. They said that they could take $10 off the bill by removing the international long distance service. Great! No one uses the phone and the only reason we have it hooked up in the first place is for the alarm system.

I received the next bill only to find it has gone up, not down! What?! I called them back and they said that there was a fee associated with making changes to your service and that the adjusted bill wouldn’t be reflected until the next billing cycle. That’s right, the international long distance service is still on the bill and so is the service fee for removing it. Next. Month. Really? Are you kidding me? FLIP OFF!!

Whew… that was a much needed rant!

Have a super weekend, everyone.

The best is yet to be.

My Favorite Day Of The Week #3

Posted on July 2, 2010 Written by Tonya

Ah, Friday, my favorite day of the week and my favorite activity… flipping stuff off!

And so, without further adieu:

#1 Why is it that in the dead of the night when all is quiet and I should be resting my weary eyes and body, my mind is racing and I can’t relax, let alone sleep? It’s completely stupid! Flip off brain, know when to say when!!

#2 LAUNDRY get s a big ole “F*** You!” Why is it so incessant? Enough said.

#3 I have special Flip Off to my tiny bladder… seriously, you are driving me crazy! I don’t have the time to spend in the bathroom that you require. What gives? Are you shrinking with age or something, because I used to pride myself in being able to hold it for a lot longer than I can nowadays. Of course, I did have a serious bout of bladder infections there for a while, but that’s besides the point, so Flip Off!

#4 I am so NOT a cat person and there are four (I think) that live in our neighborhood and they enjoy using our patio furniture to lounge on and that would be fine (not really), but they leave tons of fur behind and as someone that is allergic to felines, all I can say is Flip Off, go find another comfy $500 couch to destroy.

#5 I’d like to Flip Off people that think their cars are so much bigger than they are and either take up more than one parking space and/or take forever to get out of one. If you can’t handle the gas guzzling SUV you’re driving, get a Prius!

I always feel a lot better after these weekly purges, thanks Gigi at Kludgy Mom.

Happy Fourth of July weekend, everyone!

The best is yet to be.

Flip Off!! #2

Posted on June 25, 2010 Written by Tonya

It has been a L O N G week and I have really been looking forward to Friday Flip Offs:

In no particular order:

#1 Okay, adult acne, I’ve HAD IT!! I had clearer skin when I was 15 and ate junk. Gimme a break already! What is it gonna take? How much tea tree oil can one person use? And by the way, I have seen you pop up on several other Flip Off lists lately, so you might just want to watch your back.

#2 To the birds that have all of a sudden started showing up outside our bedroom window at 2:00 in the morning, let’s just say I’m looking into shot guns. WTF?!

#3 Speaking of being rudely awaken at night, will the case of the hungries, the growing pains, teeth trying to bust their way into my son’s mouth, tempting toys and perhaps even, the monster living under the crib, just FLIP the hell OFF?! Let the child sleep, for God’s sake! More importantly let his mommy (and daddy) sleep… a full 12 hours. Thank you!

#4 No Friday Flip Off list of mine could be complete without me bitching about traffic, but this week it’s my fellow motorists, okay, cyclists to be exact and point a (middle) finger. What the hell are you thinking?! You lycra-wearing snobs aren’t above the law and you don’t always have the “right of way”. Follow the same rules as I do in my car or you’re gonna hit. It’s the law, oh and while you’re at it, FLIP OFF!!

#5 With my (gulp) 38th birthday tomorrow, I would be remiss if I didn’t give the big ole bird to AGE and growing older. I firmly do believe as Honest Abe is quoted as saying In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years, but I would swear since I had a child, I have more gray hairs and more defined crows feet than ever before. Plus, there are new aches and pains cropping up here and there and my mind is not what it used to be. This can’t all be the baby’s fault, so I have drawn my own conclusion that getting old SUCKS!

Whew, I feel so much better and it’s all in part to Gigi at Kludgy Mom for creating this awesome meme.

Happy weekend, everyone!

The best is yet to be.

@#!%^ You! #1

Posted on June 18, 2010 Written by Tonya

I LOVE the idea of flipping stuff off, so I’m going to participate in this every Friday, as long as I don’t have anything else worthwhile to share and I’m good and pissed off at something.

Thanks to Gigi at Kludgy Mom for creating this meme. I know I’m going to feel better after this rant.

In no particular order:

#1 There is an intersection by our house that no mater what time of day or direction I am going, I get stuck at the red light, which would be okay, except for the fact that I end up sitting there for 4+ minutes sometimes. I’ve timed it! This is especially fun when running late.

My husband and I un-affectionately call it the “punishment light”. It’s like going to confession (I’m not Catholic, but I have seen it done in the movies). I feel like I am meant to sit there for 4+ minutes and think about all of the horrible, no good, very bad things I have done all day. Stupid light!

#2 I’d like to flip off elementary school children, high school teens and college kids….anyone who gets their summers off to frolic and play. Oh, what I wouldn’t give… I l.o.v.e. summers. I have always loved summer and I miss them, so screw all of you still in school with your free of responsibilities season. I hope you have a bitchin’ summer!

#3 Our DVD remote control in our bedroom. Every night, it’s the same thing… I have to turn the entire machine off at least once and sometimes TWICE in order to get to the main menu and play the DVD inserted. Novel concept, huh? Oh, this infuriates me to no end. Why can’t shit just work?!

#4 I’m not saying any names, but I recently took Lucas to a very popular department store to have his one year portraits taken and I was assured that the entire session would be available on line “by the time I got home”. It’s been a week tomorrow and I have made four phone calls and sent an e-mail and have yet to see them. Apparently the Web site was redesigned in APRIL and they are still having problems with it. Luckily I bought our favorite pose, but c’mon people!

I know there’s more where that came from, but for my first time, I’ll leave it at that. Feels good, you should try it!

Happy weekend, everyone.

The best is yet to be.
