I’m Not Cut Out For This Shit

Posted on October 29, 2014 Written by Tonya

One of the goals I set for myself this year was to submit my writing to different Web sites to gain some greater exposure and I finally, not only found the time to write a post that I felt was worthy of one of those sites, but actually submitted one.

Eek!

Lo and behold, it was accepted.

I am very honored to be featured on Scary Mommy today with a post I wrote called, I’m Not Cut Out For This Shit about a day when motherhood was seriously kicking my ass. It’s real and raw and I would be ever so grateful if you would read it.

I love and respect Jill Smokler (Scary Mommy) and the community of anything but perfect parents she has brought together through her Web site and books and I am beyond thrilled to see my words on her site.

There is nothing more powerful than the “me too” factor, so if you’re a mom I hope you’ll be able to identify with my post.

Love & Marriage

Posted on August 21, 2014 Written by Tonya

I’ve been thinking a lot about love and marriage lately.

My husband and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary earlier this month, my best friend’s anniversary was earlier this week and my parents, were they alive would be celebrating 45 years together this weekend.

My friend, Laura of Mommy Miracles has been hosting a wonderful series this summer called Writing Vows, where she has people guest post on the best and worst of marriage and each post has offered advice, a chuckle or tear and a very rare glimpse into the marriages of many of my friends.

I’m honored to be Laura’s guest today sharing what I love most about my marriage. Here’s a taste:

…for 7+ years my husband as put up with my shit, balances me out and pushes me ever so slightly to be better. We make a great team.

Seven years. And counting…

Notice I didn’t say seven blissful years or seven happy years. There have been moments of bliss and happiness, but there have also been moments of frustration, anger and immeasurable grief… TO READ MORE, PLEASE CLICK HERE.

The Beginning Of The End Of 2012

Posted on December 12, 2012 Written by Tonya

I have committed the cardinal sin of blogging!

I guest posted last week (LAST WEEK!!) and failed to blog about it here. In case you haven’t noticed, I haven’t been doing much here.

We are at the beginning of the end of 2012 and I am so not where I had hoped to be. On top of catching Lucas’ lovely stomach bug, which lasts way longer than 24 hours, I’m overwhelmed with holiday crap and wishing things had turned out a bit different.

Please follow me over to Kludgy Mom’s place and I’ll explain….

And Gigi, I hope you’ll forgive me. Looking forward to rescheduling lunch!

Sigh.

Happy Sighs

Posted on September 10, 2012 Written by Tonya

Apart from spending time with my husband, son, puppy and friends, and maybe reading and working out, the thing that makes me the happiest is listening to Dave Matthews Band.

In fact, there was an amazing moment on my recent trip to Mexico when “#41”, my favorite DMB song came on while a small group of my friends and I were sailing on the Gulf of California and I couldn’t help but dance all over the boat feeling free and light and relaxed and oh so very happy. It was one of those moments that deep sighs are made of and will make me smile for a long time whenever I think of it.

If you know me or have been reading Letters For Lucas for any length of time then you know I am a die-hard DMB fan and never miss a concert when they come through my town.

I am thrilled to be guest posting on The Trend Tribe today with my first ever concert review of Saturday’s Irvine Dave Matthews Band show.

If you have never heard of The Trend Tribe, it is a super cool Web site featuring the latest trends in fashion, travel, events, food and health and it meant a lot to me that Editor-in-Chief, Nicole Standley came to me with this assignment.

Please visit me here today!

I HEART DMB!

How I Met Your Father

I love learning how couples met and I’m honored that Rach of Life Ever Since invited me to share my story in her So, How’d You Meet? series.

Today is a special day in another way too; it marks what would have been my parents 43rd wedding anniversary and to me their marriage was one of the best and one I try to emulate. May they rest in peace.

Please come visit me at Rach’s today and learn how I met Todd!

If I Could Turn Back Time

Posted on April 27, 2012 Written by Tonya

At 18 we think we know it all. At least I sure did and as it turned out, as it does with most 18 year olds, I didn’t know a damn thing. If I could go back and read a letter from my future self, here’s what it would say:

There will be loss, disappointment and a lot of tears, but for the most part, you will have a very blessed life. Enjoy it, be grateful, don’t be so hard on yourself, have fun and be young and carefree. It goes by so fast.

Among some other things regarding men and hairstyles to avoid…

Today, I’m happy to be at Jamie’s Chosen Chaos sharing a letter to my dumber younger self. Please come read it won’t you?

Jamie was a guest on Letters For You a couple of weeks ago and if you missed her letter to her older self, please read it here.

On The Move

Posted on February 24, 2012 Written by Tonya

This August we will have known each other for 21 years.

That’s a long time to be friends with someone.

But even the best of friendships wane and things go left unsaid and feelings are hurt, opinions are expressed and lines all crossed. We suffer and vent in silence and before we know it, it’s been six years since you spoke to one another.

Today I am over Courtney’s Feature Friday writing about the loss of a dear friend. Please come visit me there….

Things They Can’t Say

Posted on November 4, 2011 Written by Tonya

I share a lot here but not everything and sometimes there is a post that is better suited for somewhere else.

It’s too raw and personal.

The last month of my life has been an emotional roller coaster and taxing physically as we just completed our second (unsuccessful) round of IVF.

Shell’s invitation to be on her site, Things I Can’t Say and featured in her series, Things They Can’t Say could not have come at a better time!

Please follow me there to read about a time I just had to see my husband…
